What's the story

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently wrapped up a two-day visit to France, where he discussed several bilateral and global issues with French President Emmanuel Macron. During his visit, PM Modi also presented traditional Indian gifts to President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron. He also gifted the children of United States Vice President JD Vance, who happened to be in France for the AI Action Summit in Paris.

Cultural exchange

PM Modi presents traditional Indian artwork to Macron

Modi gifted Macron a piece of Dokra artwork, a traditional metal craft from Chhattisgarh, India. The stonework-adorned artwork depicting musicians is famous for its intricate craftsmanship using the ancient lost-wax technique. The art form is a reflection of Chhattisgarh's rich tribal heritage and the cultural significance of music in the region. First Lady Brigitte was gifted an exquisite silver hand-graved table mirror. The mirror, with floral and peacock motifs representing beauty and nature, came from Rajasthan's rich tradition of metalwork.

Eco-friendly toys

PM Modi's gifts for Vance's children highlight sustainability

Modi also gifted Vice President Vance's children. He gifted a wooden railway toy set to Vivek Vance (4) and Ewan Blaine Vance (7). Touted as a "timeless classic," the toy set marries nostalgia with sustainability. Made from natural wood and painted with eco-friendly vegetable dyes, the set is safe for children and the environment.

Artistic puzzle

Educational gifts reflect India's rich artistic heritage

Along with the wooden railway toy set, seven-year-old Ewan also received a jigsaw puzzle inspired by Indian folk paintings. The puzzle showcases India's artistic heritage with styles such as Kalighat pat painting of West Bengal, Santhal painting by the Santhal tribe, and Madhubani painting of Bihar. For Mirabel Rose Vance, the vice president's daughter, Modi gifted an environmentally friendly wooden alphabet set.
