What's the story

The Mumbai Police arrested two youths on Thursday for harassing a South Korean woman while she was live-streaming in the city's Khar West. The incident was captured in her stream on Twitch, an excerpt of which shows one of the accused harassers grabbing her hand, trying to kiss her, and dragging her towards their motorcycle as she resists his attempts by repeatedly saying no.

Incident

Accused offered her a lift

After she tries to walk away from the spot, the youth on a bike accompanied by the other accused approaches her again and offers her a lift. She denies it, saying in broken English that she stays nearby. The video excerpt was put up on Twitter by an Indian Twitch streamer, who tagged the Mumbai Police calling for action against the accused.

Woman described her horrid experience

Last night on stream, there was a guy who harassed me. I tried my best not to escalate the situation and leave because he was with his friend. And some people said that it was initiated by me being too friendly and engaging the conversation. Makes me think again about streaming. https://t.co/QQvXbOVp9F— Mhyochi in

Some people blamed the incident on her

The woman, Hyojeong Park, retweeted the video saying that she avoided escalating the situation as it was midnight and she was alone. She also mentioned that some people blamed the mishap on her saying she was "being too friendly". The Mumbai Police took note of the incident and contacted her, following which the accused were held on the charges of sexual assault.

Feedback

Could happen in any country, she said

Talking to the media later, she said that this was her third week in Mumbai and she came to India a month ago. She said it wasn't specific to India and that she faced similar situations in other countries as well. She said the incident hadn't changed her perception of India, as she made many good memories, and wanted to tour the country more.
