What's the story

As part of a preview program, Reliance Jio has introduced a more affordable subscription scheme for its GigaFiber FTTH service. Under the new plan, you can get a GigaFiber connection by paying a refundable security deposit of just Rs. 2,500. To note, till now Jio GigaFiber was available under a Rs. 4,500 subscription plan only. Here's all about the new plan.

What do you get in the new Rs. 2,500 plan?

Under the new plan, you have to pay Rs. 2,500 as a security deposit for the Jio GigaFiber router aka Optical Network Terminal (ONT) device. Notably, there are no installation charges. With this plan, you get 50Mbps speed instead of 100Mbps which is offered on the Rs. 4,500 plan. Moreover, the router which Jio is providing under this plan supports single channel Wi-Fi only.

The plan also comes with complimentary JioCall and JioTV services

With the new 50Mbps plan, Jio has also bundled its Jio TV streaming service and fixed-line voice service. As part of the latter, you will be able to make free voice and video calls to any number from your landline connection using the JioCall app.

Everything to know about the Triple Play plan

Separately, Jio is also said to be testing a 'Triple Play' plan, under which it is offering 100GB of high-speed data, unlimited voice calling, and a complimentary subscription to JioTV as well as other Jio Apps. Reportedly, this combo plan will start at Rs. 600 per month and users will have an option to connect several smart home devices at upto Rs. 1,000 extra.

What's the update on commercial roll-out of Jio GigaFiber

As per reports, Jio is presently conducting Ready for Sale (RFS) surveys to identify suitable areas to install its GigaFiber service. The company officials are reaching out to the authorities of Multiple Dwelling Units like the high-rise societies and Single Dwelling Units such as private homes for the deployment of the service. However, there is no official timeline regarding the launch of the service.
